Air quality and air conditioning in the Philippines
Had a visit today from a friend that is a very experienced traveller to Asia. He made the comment that he did not think he could live in Asia due to the poor air quality he so often encountered in hotels and restaurants. In particular he expressed frustration with most of the Hotels in the Philippines that have windows that can not be opened.
I agree with him on this account and would often prefer an open window and fan to a feeble and often poorly serviced air conditioner recirculating the same stale air that my contain potentially harmful airborne particles.
He said that while I may be able to control air quality in my home environment I have not control over the hotels, restaurants and shopping malls I visit. It is true that respiratory infections are common in the Philippines but I had not given much thought to air quality and how it might be contributing to such problems.
Just something else to think about I suppose…
