"I've been to the Philippines twice and will venture to say that this book covers all bases. This book is a first hand guide from first hand experience. It is a must read for anyone planning on living or even just visiting the Philippines, from the 1st timer to the long term veteran. It doesn't get any better then this....Ben Bazy"

Keeping Fit and Active in the Philippines

Every week day I start the day with a work out at the local gym. A practice I intend to continue when I move to the Philippines. From what I have observed the version of the local Gym in the Philippines leaves a lot to be desired. The focus of these also seems to be more on body building than general fitness. I am more interested in cardiovascular fitness but do work out also for general body tone.

To find a gym similar to what I accustomed to at home I believe you need to look for those attached to the Five Star Hotels. These cater for tourists and business travelers and are designed to international standards. I don’t really know what they will cost but even if they are equivalent to what I am currently paying (about $80 per month) it will be OK. I will ask on Philippine Dreams forum.

A few weeks ago I started Yoga for the first time. I can not really say I am enjoying it but it has made me painfully aware how inflexible I am. I intend to continue until I achieve a level of flexibility that I am happy with (such as the ability to touch my toes). I not sure if I will still be doing it when I get to the Philippines. A brief search on the net suggests that Yoga classes will be available in Cebu.

The wife’s new passion will be a much bigger challenge. She is really getting into Belly dancing. Each week she has classes and is getting interested in all aspects of it including history and costumes (which she has started to collect). She has already expressed a concern that there will be no where to pursuer this interest in the Philippines. A more involved search of the net came up with two teaches but both of these are in Manila. No idea if she will be able to find somewhere in Cebu.

I know she will be able to find a place for ball room dancing which she is also very interested in. I don’t know if she will pursue her Filipino cultural dancing that she has been involved in for the past three years. It’s ironic but I suspect that there is probably less scope to pursue Filipino cultural dancing as a hobby in the Philippines than in the West.
