| Planning to move to the Philippines
I have a friend living in Manila for the past six years. He did not plan his move to the Philippines. From the time of making the decision to touching down in Manila was about one week.
His circumstances were a bit exceptional. He was leaving is Filipina wife to be with another Filipina. The new relationship has been very successful and a vast improvement over the very stupid Filipina he was previously with.
His failure to plan has caused him huge grief in recent times. He has a small income from investments but his arrangements for banking the checks back home have caused him constant drama because he did not give anyone authority to do his banking and is reliant on friends pretending to be him.
A lot more problems have been caused by loss of mail which included a driving license renewal notification. Without a valid overseas driving license getting a Filipino drivers license is a real hassle. There are lots of other examples too and when he finally does return home he faces a big mess.
For me planning is about avoiding is some of the more obvious and predictable problems. Its also about having options and alternatives in the event that what you have planned no longer works.
