Puerto Galera & Tranvestites

Seem to be working flat out on everything. Having the wife home for the past week has not helped. We seem to be going out a lot and I am not getting much work done. Today she want back to work as requested by management and they offered reduced hours and told her to take another week off.

This weekend the home extension is meant to happen after being postponed from last week. This has also been demanding of both my time and my cash flow. I am sure that by the time we get to the Philippines we be so exhausted that we will need a couple of weeks holiday. Probably will take the family to Puerto Galera for a couple of weeks. So far it has been my favorite beach resort area in the Philippines.

Will spend a few days at White Beach where you can order freshly caught fish to be cooked for you at one of the many restaurants along the beach. Last time I stayed at what seems to be the most central and largest resort on White Beach. It was rather basic and really targeted at locals and not foreigners.

On of the first things I noticed was there did not seem to be a spare power point anywhere. Then I read the house rules. Guests are not permitted to use any personal electrical appliances in the room. I ended unplugging the stupid TV set and plugging in the notebook. It just amazed me the attitude of the establishment. Its not like they were offering shoe string budget accommodations. I think my plain room was around the 2500 and for that you don’t get to use any electricity for personal appliances. This is the attitude of Filipinos.

In contrast was Sabang beach. For the same money I got a very nice hut along the shoreline with much better décor. A lovely veranda with comfortable couch to recline on while you watch the sun set. An actual bath. Hot water that was actually hot. The place was much cleaner. Just a much nicer place by all accounts. The price was the same and they accepted credit card (at White Beach only cash).

So White Beach will be good for a few days only. Another aspect of White Beach that quickly becomes boring are the huge number of transvestites that work in that open bars along the shoreline. They work as barmaids and dress provocatively and flirt with the customers. Some might find it amusing the first few times but it really gets boring after a while. The Filipinos never seem to get sick of this. They seem to have a fascination leaning to an obsession with transvestites.

It’s something you see everywhere in the Philippines. Someone pointed out to me that you can not watch even the most serious Filipino drama or action film without a couple put in to the film as comic relief.

Another friend of mine was going to a comedy restaurant and I warning him what to expect. You will basically see transvestites miming to song. Sure enough he reported back that is what the show consisted of.

The bottom line is that transvestites are a big part of the Filipino scene. Almost invisible in our own culture unless you look for them they are everywhere in the Philippines.
