Advice on finding a place to live

I found some advice on message board about finding a place in Cebu. According to the advice if you have unlimited budget then places like Beverly Hills (70,000 - 120,000 monthly), Maria Louisa (50,000 - 90,000 monthly), Paradise Village (40,000 - 80,000 monthly) are all great choices.

If your budget is less then there are many choices throughout the city. A great place for Tennis and Swimming is the Sand Trap. It has 3 lighted courts, a large swimming pool and nice restaurant. The Sand Trap is located in Banilad, very close to Country Mall and towards Maria Louisa. The biggest two Malls in the city are SM and Ayala they are both relatively close to each other (5 minutes by taxi) and are mot to far from anywhere inCebu City (proper). The biggest cluster of bikini bars are on Mango Ave. not far from Fuente Cirlcle.

The best advice is to wait to one is very close to going and to see what is available. Houses in decent neighbourhoods can be a tricky thing to find and they turn over quickly. Another piece of advice is no matter where you rent check it out carefully for things like noise (roosters, dogs, motorcycles, constant parties, etc.), do the neighbours burn trash and does the smoke blow right into my house, are there squatters living right around the corner. Talk to the neighbours, drive by the house at 10 P.M. and 6 A.M. and see what things are like.

This last piece of advice to check things out is going on my must do list. I met a Swedish guy early this year that moved into a nice apartment only to find out that the neighbours had a penchant for singing Karaoke every morning at 6 am. They would sing loudly and he added that they were awful singers too.

I have noticed that often Filipinos can be some of the rudest and most ignorant people you will encounter. They will jump in front of you in a cue, interrupt and generally be totally inconsiderate of others around them.
