Living in Cebu

StreetWise Small Business club of the Philippines

A friend of mine living in Cebu has started a Small Business club for Expats to share ideas and resources about creating income generating micro-business opportunities. They meet on a regular basis in Cebu and use a Yahoo group of the focal point for the club. Here is the description from the Yahoo group’s front page.

“Welcome to the Home of the StreetWise Small Business club of the Philippines. This club is open to anyone willing to risk P5000 (less than US$100)to learn more about starting a small business in the Philippines. Mainly Expats married to Filipinas with some of us living here and some in the USA,UK,Canada, Australia etc, this club will engage in various projects that will identify valid areas of investment and development, provide temporary to permanent employment for local Filipinos', inspire those looking to retire or live in the Philippines with ideas and motivation as to how to make a small living there and also, just to have fun.

It is a club, the projects are games, everybody accepts they say Goodbye to their P5000 when they join; there are no guarantees other than each club member promises to do their best to make the projects successful and profitable. Any funds left over or profits made will be ploughed back or divided up as per majority decision.”

Join here StreetWise Small Business club of the Philippines

I have been meaning to join this group for some time and will do so now. My plan to move to Cebu is not reliant on the need to generate any local income but none the less it would be foolish to ignore any opportunities.

I am also convinced the meeting and networking with other Expats will be vital to our survival in the Philippines. This club sounds like a great meeting and networking opportunity at the very least.
