Finishing stuff around the house

The house and work have kept me very busy for the past few months and will continue to keep me busy over the next five months. Consequently I have not added many updates here in a while. I will endeavor to add more entries as there are a number of move related issues yet to be resolved.

When most people make a decision to move there are often projects that need to be finished. This is particularly true when you have a house that will either be sold or rented out. I have mentioned a number of times that my big project is home renovations that were planned and commenced prior to our decision to move to the Philippines.

Today our house looks like a war zone. There are many small unfinished projects around the house but the major ones include a newly demolished shower and a major renovation of the lounge room where the ceiling has been removed. The frame for the extension at the back is finished and we now are waiting for the flooring and a roof. The newly excavated area under the house is also progressing slowly. In the Kitchen a new wall oven and hotplates sit on the floor waiting installation. Last week I removed a reverse cycle heater/aircon unit and I have just finished bricking up a hole in the wall. The hole in the plaster has been covered and needs finishing.

There is a daunting amount of work to complete in about five months with Christmas in-between. The wife has wanted to invite her brother over for some time and last week we completed the lodgment for a tourist visa so we are hopeful of having him over before Christmas. Little does he know it will be a working holiday!!!

People keep asking me why I am doing all this work to the house when I will be moving to the Philippines soon. As I have already stated much of it was planned and commenced prior to the decision to move. There were other things that we decided were just necessary if we are to offer this house at the higher end of the rental market. I am not just talking about a higher rental but attracting a better class of tenant. I am hopeful that they would take better care of our house.

Perhaps my logic is flawed but that is the path I have taken. At the end of the day we are doing it because we want the house that way and not for commercial reasons.
