"I've been to the Philippines twice and will venture to say that this book covers all bases. This book is a first hand guide from first hand experience. It is a must read for anyone planning on living or even just visiting the Philippines, from the 1st timer to the long term veteran. It doesn't get any better then this....Ben Bazy"

One Trip to the Philippines and you will be Hooked for Life, I Guarantee It!

Arrange for people to act on your behalf back home

Today I had an email from another couple that are also moving to the Philippines around the same time. The guy mentioned that his wife is already packing stuff in boxes. I suppose if we were planning on sending stuff in a container it may be time to start packing. Don’t know how long a container takes to get to the Philippines. Our plan is to keep two homes so it would be pointless for us to send our stuff to the Philippines anyway.

At this stage I have decided to keep the car and store is somewhere. I can deal with it later. We plan to return for a visit within 12 months so it will be waiting for us. Just need to keep paying $500 per month. We can stop paying the $130 a month insurance at least and just get some temporary cover when we return.

When living in the Philippines you will need to have one or more people that can act on your behalf back home. This could be a formal arrangement such as a power of attorney as my account suggested.

I have a few such arrangements.

A friend of mine with check my PO Box each week and do my banking. He will simply scan any mail and checks each month and email it to me. I will send back instructions including completed deposit forms that he can simply print off and post using preaddressed prepaid envelopes. He has been doing this for a friend of mine already so he knows what to expect.

My wife’s sister and her husband will also do stuff for us. They will keep a copy of important records and send us stuff from time to time in Balikbayan boxes. I think having someone to send stuff to you will really make the difference.

Still not sure what I may need a power of attorney for but the account has recommended it. I should have asked my attorney today. I had lunch with him and two of his associates. I am catching up with him again on the 26th when we are attending a BBQ at his house. Will let you know what he says.
