Are we really leaving?

A couple of months ago my wife tried to resign her job but they refused to accept the resignation telling her to take a couple of weeks off to think about it first. They then told her to come back and work whatever hours she wanted. This did not last long and she is not back to full time.

They have been encouraging her to take the job as 2IC but the wife explained that we are moving overseas next year. The response of her immediate supervisor was to tell she did not want to hear anything about the Philippines again. An amusing response that seems to suggest the supervisor does not believe her and is in some sort of denial.

This week they formally made her 2IC after refusing to accept her explanation that she is leaving in a matter of months. This is not going to change our plans at all.

She really did not want the promotion anyway which has more responsibility with almost no change in her rate of pay.

Its funny how many people seem to think that we are not really going. I am often greeted with a “are you still going?” when I meet friends and acquaintances. I suppose it must seem such a radical thing to most people. For us it seems natural.

Moving to the Philippines is something I started thinking about almost twenty years ago. We just never had the opportunity until now. Yes we are so going…
