“MAKING A LIVING IN THE PHILIPPINES!”

(What You Need To Know To Operate A Small Business, Get A Job Or Invest In The Philippines)

This book has been written with you in mind; the average, everyday guy who wants to escape to the Philippines and live every day with the Filipina of his dreams but still needs to make a living!

For many its the need to make a living that is stopping them from living in the Philippines but here is where You can find out how to work, start a business or invest in the Philippines and escape.

Buying shoes in the Philippines

Went shopping today at the SM shopping Mal. I wanted a cheap pair of sneakers for a gym I have just joined. Back home you can buy cheap ones for $10 or so. Not so here in the Philippines.

Almost everything is priced at 2000 Pesos and up which is closer $50. When I look at them they are cheap and nasty like I would buy back home for $20. Very strange that in a country with so many poor and smack bang in the middle of Asia such items are more expensive.

No doubt I could find the really cheap and nasty stuff at the local markets but very unlikely I would find my size. OK I know I am a “rich Americano” and I can afford the more expensive ones so stop complain.

I was really not impressed with most of what I looked at and then found a cheap pair for 800 Pesos in my size. I got them. The only place I will wear them is at the Gym and in transit to and from. So my boys think they are ugly – good because they will not borrow them like they did my last pair I left back home.

If you have small feet then the Philippines is a great place to shop for shoes. This is especially true for women. The have an area near Manila called Marikina, which is famous for making shoes. I visited there many years ago and remember seeing the shoes being made ready for export with “Made In Italy” on them. Maybe they were knock offs but my understanding was that it was an Italian company set up in the Philippines.

You might buy those shoes in the Philippines for 2000 pesos or so but by the time they reach the US or Europe they will be much closer to 200 dollars or much more.

If you have big feet then you will probably be out of luck shopping for shoes in the Philippines. In some of the department stores I visited I could not find anything to fit my older son who stands just over 6 foot.

One real option is to get shoes made. Not as expensive as you might imagine and something I will explore further.

Many things are cheaper. I got some keys cut the other day. Two house keys and one car key. The house keys were 30 and 40 pesos. The car key was 50 pesos. A total of 220 pesos for three keys. Each key would have cost that back home.
