“MAKING A LIVING IN THE PHILIPPINES!”

(What You Need To Know To Operate A Small Business, Get A Job Or Invest In The Philippines)

This book has been written with you in mind; the average, everyday guy who wants to escape to the Philippines and live every day with the Filipina of his dreams but still needs to make a living!

For many its the need to make a living that is stopping them from living in the Philippines but here is where You can find out how to work, start a business or invest in the Philippines and escape.

Rainy Season - Brown Outs - Bad attitude of some Pinoy toward foreigners - Fruit and Veggies

Rainy Season

Apparently its now but it hardly ever rains. I imagined there would be days when its constantly rained but nothing like that.

Brown Outs

This is thee name given to power outages. We do get them occasionally. Not as bad as I expected going on the report I heard from others. They normally only last an hour or so. We do not have a generator and I am not highly motivated to get one. Maybe if I experience a “brown out” in mid summer when the heat and humidity is unbearable I might get one. Even then there is always the option of jumping in the car and going to one of the many place that provide aircon comfort during brown outs.

We have our own well and an electric pump. The tank holds enough water to get by during a short brown out and in the event of a longer brown out there is an old fashion hand pump. The only real concern is spoilage of food in the two refrigerators and one freezer. I am told the Filipino answer to this in the case of a continued brown out is simply cook it all.

Bad attitude of some Pinoy toward foreigners.

I have said before that one of the good things about the Philippines is that for the most part the people genuinely like foreigners and embrace western culture. There are exceptions to this and it is my guess that jealously is the major factor.

My oldest son was walking on a road yesterday and a Filipino youth on a bicycle started peddling directly towards him at great speed. My son had to quickly step out the way despite there being heaps of room on either side for the bicycle to pass. It was a very deliberate and after the Filipino passed he looked back and gave a knowing smile. Well Karma was at play on this particular day because he then ran into a curve and both he and the bicycle were not so smug then. According to my son the bicycle looked very damaged and the Filipino was hurt. My son watched the incident quietly and gave the slightest smile before continuing home.

Fruit and Veggies

Sent the brother-in-law and two housemaids to the market last night to stock up on fruit and vegetables. We really love our fruit and Veggies so I gave them 1500 pesos. For that they came back with an amount that would cost 3 times that much back home. However, the quality is not always the same and for some things its inferior to what you get back home. The cabbages were about half the size and tomatoes also were undersize and do not look very appealing. We have found that you can get good tomatoes at Ayala and you pay a big premium for them. I have often seen small and shriveled up beans on sale at the market but the ones we purchased last night were as good as those back home. I will try to find out some per kilo prices for a better comparison to back home.
