How to bring a small fortune back from the Philippines
Long ago I was told a sure way to come back from the Philippines with a Small fortune. You simply go to the Philippines with a large fortune. As cynical as it sounds there is an element of truth to this.
Over the years I have herd many stories of people that when they have moved to the Philippines they have taken all their assets only to loose them within a few years and return almost nothing.
The best advice I can give anyone planning to move to the Philippines is to not sell the family home to do so. That way you always have something to go back to.
We purchased our current home five years ago and have been renovating it ever since. When we made the decision to move to the Philippines we were in the middle of a number of major renovations and these have accelerated in the past six months.
In fact finishing the house is now the only thing stopping us from going now. That and the children’s schooling which does not correspond to the Philippines school year.
When we have finished the house we rent it out. We would prefer to close it up but we still have a mortgage to pay. It will be a few years before we can have the luxury of having the house closed up. The ultimate plan will be to have the home here and the one in the Philippines and be able move between them whenever we please.
So for me right now my plan to move to the Philippines involves fishing the renovations to our home. With every completed project I feel we are getting closer to the move.
